Floor maintenance is an important part of facility management for commercial properties. It’s a must for the upkeep of the property’s appearance as well as reinforce general safety for users. These are usually high-traffic areas, after all.

Are you a commercial property manager in the triangle area of North Carolina? Top-quality floor maintenance is just one call away with Moore's Cleaning Tri-Area. Here’s what to know about floor maintenance for commercial properties.

Carpet

If you have a carpet, floor maintenance should include a daily vacuuming schedule as well as spot cleaning for spills to keep it looking new all the time.

Carpets need regular cleaning and maintenance since they can become breeding grounds of dust mites if not checked regularly. Particles can also get stuck in the carpet fibers which could lead to unpleasant odors. Lastly, poor carpet maintenance can leave the carpet looking old and matted.

VCT

Vinyl composite tiles or VCT floors last for a long time, especially if properly maintained. This makes them an extremely popular choice for commercial property flooring. VCT floors need to be swept, vacuumed, and mopped with a damp mop daily.

These floors also require periodic maintenance which includes stripping or the removal of wax layers that build up over time.

Hardwood

Hardwood, as a flooring choice, gives off an elegant and high-end finish to commercial buildings but is prone to scratches, especially in areas with high foot traffic.

For hardwood floor maintenance, daily sweeping and weekly mopping is a must to keep it clean and remove any spills that could cause stains.

Periodic maintenance is necessary with hardwood, requiring deep-cleaning and polishing every few months.

Terrazzo Floors

Terrazzo floors are a highly durable flooring choice with an average lifespan of 75 years if properly maintained.

For Terrazzo floors, maintenance includes daily dusting and mopping, and weekly scrubbing to keep its appearance.

Consider using a proper neutral cleaner for a nice sheen. At Moore's Cleaning Tri-Area, we only use cleaning and maintenance products specifically designed for Terrazzo floors. This way, they can retain their sheen and durability for longer.

Rubber gym flooring

Rubber flooring is typically low maintenance but still needs proper cleaning and care especially if it is used in a gym.

Unlike many other floor types, rubber floors are resistant to stains so maintenance is generally easier. Keep your rubber floors in top quality with regular sweeping, dusting, and spot cleaning.

Weekly mopping is also recommended but make sure to let the floor dry fully before allowing people to step on it to avoid unpleasant odors from developing, as well as to preserve its quality.

Wood gym flooring

Wood is often the default choice for flooring in gyms since it shines well and looks good to the eye.

To maintain wood gym flooring, proper matting and dust mopping are necessary daily to remove particles and build-up that could scratch its surfaces such as sand and dirt.

Using an auto scrubber every week or a neutral floor cleaner is ideal for ensuring it remains non-slip and maintains its appearance.
